OMOFOU【Roastery cafe】 is a quietly tucked-away spot perfect for those who appreciate a well-crafted coffee experience in Kyoto’s Minami Ward. Located in the basement level of a hotel near Kyoto Station, this cafe blends the convenience of a grab-and-go place with the thoughtful touches of a specialty roastery. Its underground setting means it’s not a sun-drenched hangout, but rather a calm retreat for early risers or those passing through.

Coffee lovers here will find a selection that goes beyond typical café fare — single-origin beans roasted in-house lead to carefully brewed pour-over options, giving a satisfying depth to each cup. The iced matcha latte and matcha cream latte stand out as local favorites, offering a smooth balance of bitterness and creaminess that appeals equally to matcha aficionados and newcomers.

Food-wise, the offerings lean into simple but tasty choices that complement the drinks. The truffle scrambled egg croissant and sweet staples like あんバターたい焼き (red bean butter taiyaki) add an interesting local twist that merges traditional Japanese flavors with Western-style café fare. The breakfast plate, available early in the morning, makes the cafe a practical stop for those starting their day near the station or hotel.

The vibe at OMOFOU isn’t about lingering for hours. Seating is neat and inviting but not overly cozy, matching the steady flow of travelers and locals who pop in for high-quality coffee and quick bites. Staff are patient and welcoming, able to accommodate visitors who may not speak fluent Japanese, which is helpful in this busy transport hub.

OMOFOU suits those who appreciate attention to coffee craft and light snacks without the fuss of a full-service restaurant. It fits well into a traveler's itinerary or a local’s morning routine when a good cup and a bit of calm are needed before the day ramps up.

Delicious truffle scrambled eggs on croissant + bacon… + delicious cold brew and also other sweet drinks/coffees. I wish they had a larger range of food options, but the eggs/croissant are super worth it! It’s not a cozy place where you want to sit for a long time, but great for stopping by. (Located in B1 basement level of a hotel, you can take the elevator via the lobby).

OMOFU was a cafe I knew I had to visit in Japan! From aesthetic decor, to equally picturesque lattes and food, this cafe is a feast for the eyes and mouth. It’s located on the bottom floor of the Miyako Hotel, and open starting 7AM, a rare sight in Japan. The workers were nice and patient with us, and we were able to easily place our orders despite our limited Japanese. My friend and I ordered a caramel cream uji matcha latte and iced latte for drinks, and both gave us a good dose of caffeine for the day. We also got some croissants, and an uji matcha basque cheesecake to share. The cream matcha latte and basque cheesecake are must-trys! They’re delicious and come at a great price. If you also like taking photos, then this is a good spot for you! All in all, definitely visit this stunning cafe.

Saw the reviews for this cafe and it definitely didn't disappoint. Tried the matcha cream latte and normal ice latte too, and they were both great. Their truffle scrambled eggs are also really delicious. Would definitely come back here again!

A place to not miss while in Kyoto: I was intrigued by the reviews of the flowing matcha and had to try. Don’t get lost like I did- it is indeed inside a hotel down stairs! Here you’ll find this cafe, wonderfully spaced out and peaceful. Friendly staff and amazing drinks and food. I of course had the uji matcha cream latte, matcha cheesecake, basque cheesecake, caramel latte, and truffle egg croissant. Matcha cheese cake was so good hubby had two!

Not enough reviews mention this but they have pourover coffee with single origin beans. They do roasting in-house and as a coffee snob it was pretty great. The cafe is in B1F of a hotel but open to anyone. Go in through the main entrance and down the stairs to the right. It is straight ahead after the stairs.

This is a great place to visit if you're looking for breakfast or brunch near Kyoto Station. We both had the truffle scrambled egg croissant with bacon and the food was really nice. They have an espresso machine and you can get proper barista made coffee here. Plenty of western style coffee options like oat milk, soy milk, extra shots and flavoured syrup. You can find OMOFU in the basement level (B1) of the Miyako Hotel and there are stairs to your right when entering the lobby. There is plenty of seating so groups of 4+ would be fine here. Excellent food and coffee like home. 10/10 would love to return.

Delicious food and drink. Location was slightly hard to find but hotel staff were very helpful (it’s level b1). Best eggs I’ve had in Japan and the matcha was incredible. We went at 10am and it was very quiet

I didn't know you have to go down the stairs to find tjis café so I spend some time finding it but it was well worth it! The atmosphere is for my taste not thr nicest since there is no window and it is all very minimalistic, but the food and drinks were great. the pumpkin brulee latte tasted amazing - it was a rich, silky cream and perfect caramel taste, not too sweet. Some other places use artificial tasting caramel syrup but from this one you could taste that they prepare it thenselves. The pumpkin pudding also amazing! Not too sweet, perfect amount of eggs (sometimes puddings taste eggy but this one not!), perfect texture. You order at the bar, you get a pager and they call you once it is ready. Very high quality products, absolutely worth the price. Will come again!
